Boots to Boats Event

"Boots to Boats River Splash!

Sunday, July 16, 2017, 11am-3pm

Kilowatt Park South in Wilder, VT

Join the National Park Service and friends for this second annual celebration of the Connecticut River. Try out a kayak or stand-up paddleboard FREE with instructors from L.L. Bean's Outdoor Discovery School. Other activities include fly-casting instruction, kids games and crafts for toddlers to teens, and exhibitors dedicated to river recreation, safety and stewardship. Food available for purchase. Paddle sessions are first-come, first served, so come early to reserve your spot."

This event is meant to be inter-generational - we hope to have everyone from parents with small children to seniors. There are age limits in terms of who can get in a boat or on a paddle board (ages 10 and up with a co-participating parent, ages 15 and up solo with a waiver), but we will have activities for tiny littles and adults as well.

I've attached L.L. Bean's schedule for kayaking and SUPing. There will also be:

  • Life-vest fitting & basic kayaking body mechanics for kids on land by Bonna/Bold Paths Adventures

  • Kids games, arts & crafts on land: by National Park Service, L.L. Bean and some of our exhibitors

  • Informational booths about river safety, recreation, and ecology by ALL our wonderful exhibitors

New this year we will have a welcome table where everyone will check-in, sign up for their paddle time, and get a stamp book with four squares on it - one for doing an Activity (kayaking, SUPing, fly casting or playing games), one for visiting with a Recreation-focused organization (UVTA, CRPT, Hartford Parks & Rec, Sierra Club, Trout Unlimited), one for visiting with an Ecology-focused organization (Sierra Club, the Boat Decontamination Unit, or Trout Unlimited), and one for visiting with a Safety-related organization (Hartford FD Swiftwater Rescue, or Bold Path's Adventures).

Participants who get all four squares stamped will get a bandana from UVTA and be entered into a raffle to win one of several L.L. Bean prizes.

    Sincerely,

Your Boots to Boats River Splash! Team
